What is a Domain Name

A Domain Name or URL (Uniform Resource Locator) are used as human friendly addresses for users to get to a webpage. Each webpage is located at a designated IP address (Internet Protocol Address) however these are often difficult to remember compared to a word or phrase. Choosing a domain name is unique to its customer. When a user searches the internet using a browser then they are directly taken to your website, blog, shop etc. There are many extensions that can be registered some of which include .com .co.uk .net .info .de .us .me .xyz. Once you have registered your domain you are able to have your email address at your new domain e.g. frank@example.com
What is a Registrar

A domain registrar is a company/organisation that manages the domain names and the registration process. A domain registrar must be accredited by a generic top-level domain provider or by a organisation specific to the individual country.

Choosing a Domain Name

Due to the growth of the Internet most popular names have already been registered. It is not impossible however it is very difficult to get a one-word dictionary word as your domain name. i.e. http://www.example.com. Although your company / business might be known as Perfect Pizza getting a domain to match maybe impossible. The key to this is to try and register before your competitors or change the domain name to something similar such as PizzaGB.

Are Domain Names Refundable

Unfortunately, due to domains names being provided by domain authorities such as ICANN and Nominet domains are non-refundable. Customers are advised to check the spelling of their domain upon purchase. If a customer no longer wishes to keep their domain they can try and sell it or just wait until the domain expires. Privacy Regarding .uk Domains Users who purchase a domain name that ends in a .uk extension (co.uk, .uk, org.uk, me.uk) are able to keep their personal details which include their address and contact number private for free. However in a recent change to Nominet’s rules if the user is making any money from their website through e-commerce, advertising or any other income then Nominet requires the user’s details to become public.

Domain Renewals

To renew your domain just log into your account and follow the simple instructions, if your domain is registered with an alternative company then just create a new account with us and transfer the domain to Configures IT Solutions. Once your domain has expired, it will be in Auto-Renew Grace Period (for 0-45 days), followed by a 30-day Redemption Grace Period. At the end of the Redemption Grace Period, you will not be able to renew your domain name. Your domain name will be released for registration by third parties.
